Heading into the Windward side (East Oahu),of the island through the sloping Pali Highway visitors seem to be transported to whole new world. The town of Kailua is a laid back beach town with steady trade winds that make this beach town the perfect spot for windsurfing and kite flying. The white sand of the Kailua Beach Park offers views of Moko nui island. This town is the perfect place for outdoor activities for the whole family . Visitors can rent paddle boards, kayaks and various outdoor equipment from local shops.
Some must see spots on the east side are Nuuanu Pali Lookout with amazing views of the Windward Coast and Koolau Mountains. The Byodo-In Temple is a beautiful spot for photo opportunities.
Make sure to visit Makapuu’s Lighthouse in hopes of seeing whales during the Winter/Springs months. The Makapuu Tide Pools are popular due to the small blowhole but visitors should use extreme caustion from the big surf that crashes into the tide pool.
